Update. Challenge 3.

This was a FAIL. Oh boy.

The food being challenged was Yeast / Fungi and as I have not tested wheat yet I couldn't have bread / active yeast so I was limited to Mushrooms (a bunch of different ones), Nutritional Yeast and Marmite. I love all these so enjoyed my breakfast (potatoes with Mushroom Gravy), incorporating all in the gravy, though started feeling a bit not right by mid morning (queasy, headache-y, gassy) which was a bad sign. I had a lovely Mushroom Soup, again with all three items above, for lunch and by mid afternoon was in agony, - really bloated, gassy, weak feeling. Not good. Needless to say I didn't persist with a Yeast / Fungi dinner, and the digestion issues continued into the evening. I think everything was emptied by the time I went to bed.

My first fail, which is a positive thing! I'll revisit these foods (and any other which fail too between now and then) at the very end, after a decent break too, and do each one on its own, and each type of mushroom on its own too.

Next up is (I think) Citrus, so I'll update after that.

Update. Challenge 1 & 2

OK. So I've put back a couple of things successfully, which is lovely as it opens up lots more things I can eat, and makes meals a whole lot less boring!

To do the challenge I ate something from the challenge food family for 6 meals in a row on the first 2 days of the test, then reverted back to the elimination diet for a further 2 days to give an responses time to come through, if there was nothing the foods went back in on a rotational basis - ie not every day! I then had a day of elimination + new food (if desired) before doing the next challenge. Elimination from then on includes the tested and OK food. Pretty standard stuff for this type of thing.

Nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes and peppers) where the first to be tested and they were fine. I know eggplant is also in this food family, but I really don't like eggplant so didn't bother with it.

I've just finished with the two days of eating corn in a variety of guises - On the cob, polenta, tinned, and so far have had no reactions to that either.

Its a time consuming process, and I'm pretty sure I've left the ones which will cause an issue (if any) to last, but we'll see.

Now you're updated.

Elimination update.

I've been told off by 2 people now for not updating for a while. OK, so maybe not "told off" but it has been mentioned to me that I may like to just say what I've been up to. Not that I was already feeling guilty or anything.

Elimination phase is pretty much done, I start my challenging tomorrow, with the easy, less likely to be causing problems foods. I'm saving the biggies like Wheat and Soy for last! I feel good, lots of energy (most of the time), no "brain fog" or excessive stomach complaints, so that in itself is positive. I will have to update each time I challenge I suppose.

Running has been coming along too, I'm pleased with the progress there, though I haven't been for a few days, walking a great deal but no running. Last time I went out I went early in the morning and took M & R with me while H was asleep after a late shift. They played at the play park and I ran around the baseball field!

So, what have I been eating? Rice, lots of rice! At least once a day, also quinoa, millet, buckwheat, tapioca, sweet potatoes, beans as well as a variety of fruits / veggies that aren't up for challenging. Very simple food to be honest, a little bit boring and not really worth sharing, hence the lack of posts. It's been hard, as I said before, I have a bunch of ideas for things to make, but its all been put on hold while I try and figure out whats been upsetting my system.

However, I did make a Chocolate Pie for the girls the other day (same as it ever was) which they have almost devoured, but other than that no baking. Its too much temptation!!

Consider yourselves updated.

Boring month coming up.

Sorry, but I thought I'd better warn you.

I'm not planning on doing a great deal of anything much in the kitchen for the next month or so. I think I have been having reactions to some of the foods I am eating so am doing an Elimination / Challenge diet to try and sort it out.

In the beginning especially I am eating very simply, boring-ly in fact, so unless I get creative for some other reason there may not be many exciting food posts on the way. Which is a shame as I had a bunch of stuff planned to make, but sorting out how I'm feeling and my health has to take priority!

I've also started back in my running programme. I didn't mention it I think, but I really hurt my knees by running too much on pavement, and I needed to stop until they got better. They're better now, I'm back to the beginning and making sure I run on grass or trails.

and, of course, If I bake for the children I'll be sure to take photos and pop it on the blog.

Computer problems

Sorry about the lapse in blogging. I can only take part of the blame as our computer has been not well. It's better now so I should be getting back in the swing of things!

and I know its now July so I'll have to update all the June stuff at the side - just not today!
