The biggest thing for food in February's for me isn't the chocolate stuff which happens about the 14th, (though that comes in close second,) but my eldest daughter's birthday!
Happy Birthday to you my darling! In this month I get to busily bake birthday cake for the party, (last year we had a "Princess Cake" and this year she wants butterflies,) birthday cupcakes to share at school, and for the first time this year birthday cookies to share at Sparks. She gets to choose, and help with all the baking's so it is pretty fun. Around the time of her birthday she also gets to choose other treats I may make too - things like Chocolate Pie, which in all its many guises is her super favourite, and main meals she would like though she isn't quite as adventurous there!
In February there is also Waitangi Day (New Zealand's National Day) so I really should make a bunch of New Zealand stuff for us this month. This year I will be in New Zealand for a lot of the month so that's a perfect opportunity to get taste testing done by people who eat the original versions of things such as - Australasian "Meat" Pie and Lamingtons (as also featured in January for Australia Day), Banoffi Pie, Afghan Biscuits, Melting Moments, Ginger Crunch, Chocolate Caramel slice.
February also welcomes the Chinese New Year, and while I don't have a lot of experience with Chinese food I do like such things as....
Apparently it is also the Japanese National Day on February 11th so I'll have to make some sushi as I have in the past, both more traditional and fusion styles, with maybe some of that Miso Soup on the side!
and last but by no means least, February 14th is Valentines Day. Bring on the chocolate creations!
